How does Peridot sound?

Apache Tears near the turn off to Death Valley/Scott’s Castle.

There is Galena at the Agentina Mine NW of Jean, NV.

Will need to look for the coordinates.

I just followed your link. This is a very good site. Looks like a lot of information on the subject. Thanks for the post.

For the Apache Tears, it’s about 8 or 9 miles along Hwy 95 southeast of the turn to Scotty’s Junction. (Close to 27 miles north of Beatty on Hwy 95).

37° 12.372′ & 116° 57.623′ should get you close (south side of the road) and the tears are on both sides of the fence. There is a road that turns off of hwy 72 that will get you to the off side of the fence.

Great web site Oldfarts. We will keep an eye out for some of these places. Do you know anything about the area out in Lake Mead on the way to the
Lake Mead Cache#1 Anniversary Mine? GCCA5F There is a sign one the way out that says you can rock hunt as long as it is done with only hand tools.

SgtPepper

The gypsum caves are out Lake Mead Blvd.

The Valley of Fire has a couple of areas that have pale blue chalcedony & agate. Seems there was some common opal available at one time but that is now pretty scarce.

There areas are southeast off of hwy 169. Sorry to be vague on the directions, but haven’t been to these 2 chalcedony sites.

There are some good spots for rockhounding near Mesquite.

I’ve rockhounded each of those locations. I found the directions in the bookRockhounding Nevadaby William A. Kappele (who lives in Henderson, of course!) The book has maps in it. and somewhere around here i have waypoints…

I also have a map, Nevada Gold & Gems Maps, Then and Now

Oh, and a book of geological features around the Las Vegas valley.

If you’d like to borrow any of these resources, let me know! Good books are meant to be shared.
