Groundspeak's Geocaching for Android Application
Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online.

Now you can geocache using your Android phone and Groundspeak's Geocaching for Android Application.

How It Works
Android phones use a combination of GPS, Wi-Fi positioning and cell towers to determine your approximate location. The Geocaching Application then queries the Geocaching.com database in real-time and provides a list of geocaches near you.

Screenshots and Features

Instant, direct access to Geocaching.com's database of worldwide geocaches

  • Search by current location, address or GC code
  • Filter your finds from the Geocaching.com search results
  • Access geocache details, including description, photo gallery, attributes, recent logs, hint and inventory
  • Look up Trackable details, including item goals, while on the trail
  • Save geocache listings, including maps and photos, for quick retrieval and offline use
  • Log geocache finds and post notes in the field
  • Download active pocket queries for use while outside of network coverage
  • View geocache web pages on Geocaching.com without leaving the application using embedded web browser

It looks a lot alike the c:geo app that I have been using for the Droid.

Differences from cgeo so far:
Loads quicker
Can download PQs
Does not violate TOS

Does it also handle Wherigo's?

Okay, I tried this out on several caches in Big Bear, and it worked great. Accuracy was what you would expect (about 20 ft). In addition to running PQs, it also allows you to save field notes, which makes it a good companion to a handheld when in an area with no data service. Trackable lookup is also supported, but there is no drop or grab option.
In comparison to c:geo, the only feature it lacks is the browser function, so you can't open a cache in the app from an email link. For that reason, I'm keeping c:geo on my phone, but it's really only useful for FTF runs.
Wherigo is not supported, but there is a free app called WhereYouGo that does. I haven't tried it, but I may go redo the one in Summerlin to see how it compares to using the Java emulator I used last time.
All in all, I like the Official app, but if you are happy with c:geo, I'd wait to buy it until it has a few more features.
Just my $.02

I have heard that a lot about the app and I am going to stick with c:geo. Good too hear that the new app is working but also needs some refining.
