TOPIC: Winter wx??

Winter wx?? 3 years 11 months ago #60719

I'm giving thought to heading back down there in January, possibly February for the rest of the ET series, along with cleaning up the states/state caps. Generally speaking, what kind of weather and road condx can I expect??

tnx!

As far as the ET series is concerned the road is typically clear & open. However, there is a fair chance of snow and ice during Jan & Feb and in extreme cases you could get stranded (its happened before in that area). But if you stay updated with Highway Patrol road condition advisories you should be fine. The risk increases the closer you get to Tonopah because of the higher altitude. I have personally experienced temperatures at "0"F calculated with a light wind factor in the ET area and as you would expect even more extreme closer to Tonopah.

Tnx. I don't recall offhand just where my last bit of unfound caches are. I'll have to pull up the maps.

As someone that has been in the area (both Tonopah and Rachel) for about ten years the coldest I have seen is- 12 in Rachel (not windchill) Tonopah typically not as cold but more snow.

On a side note NDOT is removing the caches in Nye county as they can find them.

The- 12 was four years ago. Last year the coldest I saw was 0.

Wow. Tnx for that bit of info. I still need 575 thru 788. I'll have to pull up my map to see what county they're in!
